Overview
Bigelow Laboratory invites applications for a marine educator to assist in the delivery of education programs to a wide range of students and program participants. The position will work with Bigelow scientists and staff to develop and deliver both laboratory and field-based education programs. Expected duties will include: maintenance and preparation of laboratory equipment and teaching laboratory spaces in Bigelow’s new Education and Innovation Wing; providing training and assistance in the use of oceanographic field sampling equipment on Bigelow’s new research vessel; delivering classroom and field instruction to students of all levels; supporting Bigelow’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, including collaborations with minority-serving institutions of higher education; recruiting for Bigelow education and outreach programs.


Requirements

Minimum requirements are a MS degree plus 2 years teaching or mentoring in marine science, oceanography, biology, chemistry, or environmental field. Five or more years of mentoring or teaching experience in these fields is also adequate preparation. A PhD is preferred to enable provision of formal instruction to college students. Applicant should have familiarity with general laboratory, marine science, and field science practices and techniques, as well as strong oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, and an ability to work both independently and as part of instructional and education teams.


Annual salary is negotiable based on experience, within an expected range of $51,600-74,300, with a generous benefits package including health care, retirement contribution, and paid time off.
